What’s Involved

To gain the CIPS Level 4 Diploma, you will need to complete eight modules that make up a total of 60 credits.

You will complete the following eight modules:

Scope and Influence of Procurement and Supply (L4M1 – 12 credits)

L4M1 explores the key stages of the generic sourcing process and evaluates the influence that procurement and supply can have on an organisation, using the CIPS Procurement Cycle as its foundation.

Defining Business Need (L4M2 – 6 credits)

L4M2 develops your understanding of market management and the influence of competitive forces in the specification of goods and services. You will be able to create a suitable business case for any external supplier.

Commercial Contracting (L4M3 – 6 credits)

L4M3 develops your understanding of the key elements and regulatory features of formal commercial contracts.  You will gain the knowledge and skills to analyse the content of specifications for procurement and interpret key performance indicators that are included within any supplier contracts.

Ethical and Responsibilities Sourcing (L4M4 – 6 credits)

L4M4 explores the processes used in sourcing external suppliers. You will learn how to formulate a suitable selection criterion as well as sourcing strategies to ensure that the organisation will make the correct choice of external suppliers.

Commercial Negotiation (L4M5 – 6 credits)

L4M5 will provide you with the knowledge and skills to carry out successfully negotiations with stakeholders and suppliers. You will learn the various approaches to negotiation agreements with external parties, how to prepare for them and know what techniques can be used to ensure successful outcomes.

Supplier Relationships (L4M6 – 6 credits)

L4M6 develops your understanding of the nature of supplier relationships and how they can be successfully cultivated. You will learn about the concept of partnering and how to build effective partnerships within procurement and supply.

Whole Life Asset Management (L4M7 – 6 credits)

L4M7 develops your understanding of the key elements of effective inventory control as well as the concept of whole life costing, taking into account the total cost of ownership of a purchase.

Procurement and Supply in Practice (L4M8 – 12 credits)

L4M8 explores the practical application of the key elements in the procurement cycle. You will learn how to apply procurement and supply concepts across a range of real-world workplace contexts.

Each module is assessed by exam. You can choose to sit the exam online, via remote invigilation or in person at an exam centre.

Each 6-credit module is assessed by an ‘Objective Response’ exam. This is a multiple-choice exam which lasts for 1.5 hours.

Each 12-credit module is assessed via a ‘Constructed Response’ exam, which is an essay-based exam which lasts for 3 hours.

The Diploma in Procurement and Supply course can be studied in three different ways: Distance Learning, Virtual Classes, and Face to Face Classes.

Distance Learning involves independent, self-paced study. You’ll have access to our online learning platform, allowing you to work through the resources in your own time, at your own pace and receive full support from our in-house team.

Virtual Classes run live online either during the afternoon, evening or over one or two days, depending on the module you are undertaking.

Face to Face Classes run either in the evening or over one or two days, depending on the module being studied. These take place across our wide range of UK venues.
