What’s Involved

To gain the CIPS Level 6 Professional Diploma, you will need to complete four core modules totalling 42 credits and an additional three elective modules, totalling a further 18 credits.

You will complete the following four core modules:

Strategic Ethical Leadership (L6M1) 

This module will equip with you with the leadership skills and behaviours essential for securing organisational and stakeholder commitment to strategic improvements and change. You will gain an understanding of the ethical practices, sustainable standards, and regulations that influence the procurement and supply function.

Global Commercial Strategy (L6M2)

This module will provide you with an understanding of the concept of global commercial strategy along with understanding the challenges of its formulation and implementation within an organisation. You will gain the knowledge and skills to assess the benefits and risks associated development of a global commercial strategy.

Global Strategic Supply Chain Management (L6M3)

This module will provide you with the skills to successfully develop, implement, monitor and optimise global supply chains as well as understand their strategic influence on achieving competitive advantage.

Future Strategic Challenges for the Profession (L6M4)

This module is designed to challenge senior professionals to consider the changing needs and requirements of the procurement and supply function. You will gain the skills needed in order to assess and evaluate the future challenges for the profession.

You are also required to select three elective modules from the following:

Strategic Programme Leadership (L6M5)

This module will give you the knowledge and skills to develop and lead the implementation and monitoring of contracts from a strategic standpoint. You will gain practical knowledge of programme leadership approaches, as well as the role of culture in achieving success.

Commercial Data Management (L6M7) 

This module will equip you with an understanding of the concept of big data and the importance of data reliability and security in the procurement and supply function.

Innovation in Procurement and Supply (L6M8)

This module will give you the tools and techniques required to deliver improvement and innovation in procurement and supply chains. You will gain an understanding of the technology that can be applied to improve supply chains as well as the environmental factors that could affect it.

Supply Network Design (L6M9)

This module will equip you with an understanding of the strategic nature, impact and contribution of supply network design.  You will learn how to assess the impact of operational strategy as well as the strategic value of resource planning.

Global Logistics Strategy (L6M10)

This module will provide you with an understanding of the challenges, government and requirements needed for an effective global logistics strategy. You will learn how to evaluate the global governance of supply chains, including the concept of reverse logistics.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Principles (L6M11)

This module will build your knowledge of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles and how they apply within procurement and supply chain functions. It will equip you with practical tools and techniques to help integrate ESG principles effectively into both organisational practices and supplier relationships. Please note: this module will be available for the March 2026 exam series.

Each module is assessed by exam. You can choose to sit the exam online, via remote invigilation or in person at an exam centre.

Each six-credit module is assessed by a ‘Objective Response’ exam. This is a multiple-choice exam which lasts for 1.5 hours.

With the exception of L6M4, which is assessed by a 2 hour ‘Constructed Response’ exam.

Each twelve-credit module is assessed by a ‘Constructed Response’ exam.  This is an essay-based exam which lasts for 3 hours.

The Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply course can be studied in three different ways: Distance Learning, Virtual Classes, and Face to Face Classes.

Distance Learning involves independent, self-paced study. You’ll have access to our online learning platform, allowing you to work through the resources in your own time, at your own pace and receive full support from our in-house team.

Virtual Classes run live online either during the afternoon, evening or over one or two days, depending on the module you are undertaking.

Face to Face Classes run either in the evening or over one or two days, depending on the module being studied. These take place across our wide range of UK venues.

In order to undertake the CIPS Level 6 Professional Diploma, you will need to have completed the CIPS Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply. 

If you have already completed a degree in a related subject from an accredited university, you may be able to apply for some module exemptions from your CIPS qualification.
